ESPN College GameDay is going to Columbus in Week 13 for Michigan vs. Ohio State . Might GameDay feature the Wolverines or Buckeyes a week later in the Big Ten Championship? Probably not.
Through 12 weeks of the season, College GameDay has visited schools from six different conferences (plus Notre Dame) and broadcast from two neutral-site games. Which conference will they feature during conference championship weekend?
They're not visiting a Group of Five conference championship. No chance.
They're not going west to the Pac-12 Championship for a couple reasons, though it's really only one reason. In addition to a likely non-playoff-impacting game, it's scheduled for Friday, Nov. 30. While it'd be great to see GameDay double dip with two games in two days, it won't happen.
They're not going to the Charlotte for Clemson vs. Pittsburgh. The Tigers will be playing for a playoff bid, but that's not enough to broadcast from the ACC Championship for a second straight year.
They're also not going to Dallas for the Big 12 Championship. Texas vs. Oklahoma Part 2 would attract millions of eyeballs, but the stakes aren't big enough for both teams. Same goes for the Big Ten Championship, which they picked in both 2015 and 2016. Sorry, Northwestern, fair or not, you're not a sexy opponent and no one thinks you have a chance vs. Ohio State or Michigan.
Barring a shocking development, ESPN College GameDay will be in Atlanta in Week 14 for the SEC Championship. Both Alabama and Georgia will be playing for the playoff in a rematch of last year's national championship. GameDay hasn't been to the SEC Championship since 2012.
