App State Head Coach Shawn Clark’s Background
With Clark as head coach, App State reached the Sun Belt Championship game in 2023. But even before he led the team, he was a successful assistant.
He was a co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for App State from 2016-18 and was an assistant head coach and OL coach there in 2019. During that stretch, the Mountaineers were often among the top teams in the Sun Belt and even in the country in rushing yards and fewest sacks allowed. Clark was a two-time All-American offensive lineman at App State in the 1990s.
He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Louisville from 2001-02. He then coached offensive linemen at Eastern Kentucky (2003-08), Purdue (2009-12), and Kent State (2013-15).
