Boise State entered the 2025 season with much higher expectations than what it ended up accomplishing.
After earning a bye in the College Football Playoff and appearing in the Fiesta Bowl, where they lost to Penn State, the Broncos were hoping to return to the CFP in 2025. But those hopes were derailed almost immediately.
Boise State lost to South Florida 34-7 in the season opener, which knocked the Broncos out of the Associated Press Top 25. They won three straight games after that against FCS Eastern Washington, Air Force, and App State. But Boise State then lost 28-7 at Notre Dame, and the Broncos were never really in the CFP discussion after that point.
But that doesn’t mean this has been a bad season.
Boise State went on to beat New Mexico, UNLV, and Nevada, which got the Broncos on the right track. But then they lost back-to-back contests to Fresno State and San Diego State. And while starting quarterback Maddux Madsen was injured, it appeared Boise State was out of the Mountain West Championship picture as well.

But the Broncos bounced back once again, defeating Colorado State and Utah State to force a four-way tie at the top of the conference standings. Through tiebreakers decided by computer rankings, Boise State and UNLV had a rematch in the conference title game.
With Madsen back, the Broncos went ahead and won their third consecutive conference title under head coach Spencer Danielson before going to the Pac-12 next year.
But the Broncos (9-4) have one more game to play before that officially happens. They will take on a former Pac-12 program, Washington (8-4). The Huskies finished with a 5-4 record in Big Ten play but with losses to Ohio State, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Oregon, they never really were in the CFP picture.
They hope to finish the season with a bowl win, however.

Boise State vs. Washington Prediction
I predict Washington will win and cover the 9.5-point spread. I also project the game will go Under 52.5 total points.
Predicting bowl games can always be tough because one may not always know who is going to participate and how motivated players will be even if they do participate. But I imagine that Washington will have a bit more depth, and some of those players could be eager to prove they deserve a starting spot at Washington or elsewhere in the Power Four.
We already know Boise State left tackle Kage Casey, who might be one of the best players in the Group of Five this season regardless of position, won’t be playing. And that could affect how Boise State protects quarterback Maddux Madsen and may ultimately impact how successful the Broncos’ offense will be.
I think Washington may be able to get some pressure on Madsen and slow down Boise State’s dynamic rushing attack en route to a win.
