Louisiana Tech may end up playing in the Sun Belt this season, but it won’t be cheap.
Yahoo Sports reported on Friday that the University of Louisiana Board has allowed Louisiana Tech to sign a settlement with Conference USA, allowing LA Tech to leave CUSA and join the Sun Belt in 2026.

How Much Will Louisiana Tech Pay To Leave Conference USA?
Louisiana Tech is reportedly paying CUSA an exit fee of more than $8 million to go to the Sun Belt.
This isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Southern Miss, Old Dominion, and Marshall sued CUSA when they jumped to the Sun Belt in 2022. All three did play in the SBC that year, but they each paid $1.75 million to do so.
Earlier this year, both the Sun Belt and CUSA released schedules that included LA Tech on them, so the Bulldogs were slated for 20 games – which of course was never going to happen.
If the settlement goes through and the Bulldogs appear in the SBC in 2026, Louisiana Tech will be in the Sun Belt West Division.
