Oklahoma State has finally replaced Mike Gundy.
The Cowboys are reportedly hiring North Texas head coach Eric Morris, one of the top head coaching candidates out of the Group of Five right now. This is more than two months after OSU had fired Gundy.

Morris clearly knows the offensive side of the ball, as evidenced by his resume and what he’s done in his time at North Texas.
This year, the Mean Green are 10-1 overall and 6-1 against American Conference teams with a chance to win a league championship and appear in the College Football Playoff. Going into Week 14, the Mean Green lead the country with 46.3 points and 503.3 yards per game as UNT QB Drew Mestemaker is first in the nation with 3,469 passing yards.
During Morris’ career, he’s also worked with QBs like Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, and Cam Ward.
He was previously a head coach at Incarnate Word from 2018-21. He was also at Texas Tech from 2013-17, where he spent time as an offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach. He played wideout for the Red Raiders in the 2000s and was an all-Big 12 punt returner.
He began his collegiate coaching career at Houston as a quality control coach in 2010 and a graduate assistant in 2011.
Before going to UNT, Morris was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Washington State in 2022. He was also an inside wide receivers coach at WSU in 2012.

Eric Morris will continue to fulfill his duties as the head coach at North Texas until the Mean Green are done with their season, according to multiple reports.
And UNT still has plenty to play for. The Mean Green are 10-1 overall and 6-1 in American Conference play. They play Temple (5-6) on Saturday, and they will likely appear in the American Conference Championship if they win.

Mike Gundy was the head coach at OSU before this, and he was at Oklahoma State for a long time.
He also accomplished a lot as head coach of the Cowboys. He led the program going back to 2005, and from 2006-23, OSU made a bowl game during every one of those seasons. From 2008-23, the Cowboys were ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 at some point during each of those years.
But Oklahoma State went 3-9 last year, and after a loss against Tulsa, the Cowboys started this season 1-2 overall. After those results, Gundy was fired by OSU.
