FAU Head Coach Tom Herman’s Background
Herman has a plethora of collegiate coaching experience, both as a head coach and an assistant. And most of his career has been in the state of Texas.
His first stint as a head coach was at Houston from 2015-16. The Cougars were ranked as high as sixth in the nation his final year there.
The following four years, he was the head coach of Texas. The Longhorns had winning records every year during his time there and were 4-0 in bowl games. They made the top 10 in the AP Top 25 rankings in each of his last three years there.
He was an offensive analyst for the Chicago Bears in 2021 before becoming a TV analyst for a year and then going to FAU.
He’s also been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Ohio State (2012-14), Iowa State (2009-11), Rice (2007-08), and Texas State (2005-06). He coached wide receivers and special teams at Sam Houston from 2001-04 as well.
He began his career at Texas Lutheran as a wide receivers coach in 1998 before becoming a graduate assistant at Texas for two years.
