With Jim Harbaugh gone and Sherrone Moore taking over as head coach, not to mention allegations surrounding the program about sign-stealing, questions have been swirling around the Michigan football program for months.
How will that impact the Wolverines on the field? Fans will find out for sure this week as Michigan opens the season against Fresno State, a strong Group of Five program in 2023 which also went through an offseason coaching change.

Fresno State vs. Michigan Prediction
I predict Michigan will win but Fresno State will cover the spread at +21. I also project the game will go Over 45.5 total points.
Michigan is probably going to be one of the top teams in the FBS once again and will have a good shot of making the College Football Playoff. But after all that’s happened this offseason, would it really be that surprising to see the Wolverines stumble a little bit in their season opener?
Let’s also not forget Fresno State was a pretty solid team out of the Mountain West in 2023. Sure, Jeff Tedford is gone. But I expect interim head coach Tim Skipper – who knows the program very well having been a player at Fresno State – to keep the momentum going.
And between quarterback Mikey Keene, running back Malik Sherrod, and defensive lineman Devo Bridges, the Bulldogs have stars on both sides of the ball. I think that will be enough for Fresno State to keep the lead down to 17 points by the end of the contest.
