JMU is the No. 1 team in the G5 Top 25 college football rankings this week. But the Dukes could easily lose that spot with a tough home matchup this weekend.
The Dukes (5-0, 2-0 Sun Belt) will host No. 15-ranked Georgia Southern (4-1, 1-0) at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday in a Sun Belt East clash.

Davis Brin Leading The Way For Georgia Southern Football
Davis Brin has been one of the top quarterbacks in the Group of Five this year.
The Georgia Southern signal caller has completed 70% of his passes thus far. He’s totaled 1,611 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions as well.
Khaleb Hood has been his top receiver, as Hood has totaled 414 yards and three touchdowns on 39 catches. Derwin Burgess Jr. has added 371 yards and three touchdowns on 36 receptions. O.J. Arnold (269 yards and three touchdowns) and Jalen White (261 yards and three touchdowns) have been the Eagles’ leading rushers.
Marques Watson-Trent has stood out on Georgia Southern’s defense. He has 45 tackles to go with one interception. Isaac Walker leads the team with two sacks.

Jordan McCloud Leading JMU Football’s Offense
Jordan McCloud is a major reason JMU has been successful this year.
He’s completed 65% of his throws for 1,173 yards, 11 touchdowns, and three interceptions. The former transfer quarterback has distributed the ball well, as four JMU receivers have at least 100 yards through the air.
Reggie Brown leads JMU with 373 receiving yards and has scored three touchdowns on 16 receptions. Kaelon Black has a team-best 365 rushing yards.
On defense, Jalen Green is tied for third in the country with 6.5 sacks to go with 26 tackles. Aiden Fisher leads JMU’s defense with 38 tackles.
Georgia Southern vs. JMU Football Prediction
I’m picking JMU to win, but I also predict Georgia Southern will cover the spread at +6. I’m also predicting the game will go Under 58.5 total points.
Both of these teams are playing exceptionally well on both sides of the ball. For the most part, both teams are in the top five in the Sun Belt in terms of scoring offense and defense as well as total offense and defense.
But I believe the defenses will shine in this matchup. The Eagles allow the fewest points in the conference at 20.2 per game, while JMU is fourth in the league with 22.6 points per game allowed.
That’s why I think this will be a fairly low-scoring game. Georgia Southern will be able to keep this contest close, but I believe JMU will find a way to win again at home.
