Timmy Chang set the NCAA’s all-time passing yards and total offensive yards records during his playing career at Hawaii. After some time in the pros and then coaching elsewhere, he returned to lead the Rainbow Warriors as their head coach.

Timmy Chang agreed to a four-year contract before the 2022 season that would pay him $500,000 in the first year with that figure increasing about $100,000 each of the following two years and another $50,000 in the final year.

Hawaii Head Coach Timmy Chang’s Background
Before becoming the head coach of his alma mater, Chang was a successful position coach in the Mountain West.
Chang coached at Nevada from 2017-21. He worked with inside wide receivers his first year, then focused on tight ends during the next three seasons before mentoring wide receivers during his last year there.
In 2021, his last season before taking over at Hawaii, he helped Nevada rank fourth in the country in total offense. Chang worked with three players who made the Fred Biletnikoff Award Watch List, including current Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.
Chang began his collegiate coaching career as a graduate assistant at SMU from 2012-13. He then was an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Jackson State from 2014-15. He was also an OC at Emory & Henry College in 2016.
