Louisiana Head Coach Michael Desormeaux’s Background
Desormeaux was a highly successful player at Louisiana before he led the program as its head coach as he’s a former Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Year.
Desormeaux threw for 3,893 yards and 23 touchdowns and ran for 2,843 yards and 16 TDs as a quarterback. He was an All-Sun Belt selection three times.
He eventually spent a few years coaching at the high school level, including at his alma mater, Catholic-New Iberia, and at Lafayette’s Ascension Episcopal School for three years where he helped the team reach the state semifinals.
Desormeaux began his collegiate coaching career at Louisiana as a wide receivers coach. He worked with running backs and was an interim head coach in 2017.
He then worked with tight ends from 2018-21 under Billy Napier, becoming the team’s co-offensive coordinator in 2021. That year, Louisiana was third in the Sun Belt in scoring offense (31.2 points per game) and total offense (397.6 yards per game).
