Ty Wise established himself as one of the most consistently effective defensive players in the MAC during his three years at Miami (Ohio). Wise started 33 games during that span, including all 14 games each of the past two seasons. He began his career with Indiana.
Wise was a key reason the RedHawks had one of the best defenses in the league the past two years, allowing an average of 17.3 points per game.
Wise has the leadership and off-the-field characteristics needed to be an NFL player, but his play will likely need to improve to carve out a spot on a 53-man roster.
Ty Wise NFL Mock Draft Projection In 2025
I project Ty Wise will be selected late in the seventh round of the NFL Draft or will be an undrafted free agent.
Wise reportedly met with the Raiders, Bengals, and Cardinals during his Pro Day — all three teams that could use some defensive reinforcements.
Ty Wise Height & Weight
Ty Wise measured at 6-foot-1, 223 pounds at Miami’s Pro Day.
Ty Wise’s Stats & Highlights
In his first year as a starter, Wise finished with 122 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and eight sacks. He also forced one fumble and snagged an interception. This included a 19-tackle performance against Ball State which was his career high.
Wise helped guide the RedHawks to the 2023 MAC title during a 23-14 win over Toledo where he was integral in containing Toledo quarterback Dequan Finn, keying in on him as a spy for much of the game. Wise finished the day with eight total tackles and was a second-team All-MAC selection in 2023.
The Carmel, Indiana, native followed up his junior campaign with another strong season, earning second-team All-MAC honors in 2024. He registered 89 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, and two interceptions. Wise helped the RedHawks reach the MAC title game again, where they fell 38-3 to Ohio. He finished with 17 total tackles in that contest.
Ty Wise’s NFL Draft Comparison & Profile
One of the areas that could propel Wise into a role in the NFL is his pass coverage ability. He recorded a total of six pass breakups over the past two seasons to go with his three interceptions.
He moves well in space, and his intelligence and feel for the game often have him in the correct position to cover routes. It’s a reason he played the Mike role in Miami’s 4-3 defense. His awareness and ability to always be in the right spot reminds me of Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson.
Wise is also great at getting into the backfield, especially on a blitz. His 223-pound frame could run into some issues against bigger interior linemen in the league. However, Wise played at 249 pounds according to Miami’s roster, so I expect he’d be able to put that weight back on.
All in all, Wise is a decent athlete, but I think his knowledge and understanding of the game is what allowed him to be a two-time all-conference selection. It’s rare for him to not be in the correct position or not take the correct pursuit angle toward a ball carrier.
This is important because those aren’t always traits that can be taught.
