A week after finding out previous head coach Eric Morris is headed to Oklahoma State, North Texas has found its next head coach.
The Mean Green officially named Neal Brown as their next HC.

His history of elevating rosters, developing talent and producing results in highly competitive leagues makes him an ideal fit for North Texas. We are confident that his leadership will position the Mean Green for sustained success, and we look forward to the impact he and his family will have on our program and our community for years to come.”

Neal Brown’s Background
Brown has 10 years of FBS head coaching experience over his time at Troy and West Virginia. He’s 5-1 as the head coach in bowl games with three 10-plus win seasons.
He was also the Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2017.

Jared and his team presented a clear vision of why North Texas and Denton check all those boxes and then some. Football in Texas is special and my family and I can’t wait to pour everything we have into the North Texas campus and Denton. Previously, Brown was the offensive coordinator for Kentucky (2013-14), Texas Tech (2010-12), and Troy (2008-09). He also coached inside wide receivers at Troy from 2006-07.
He was also an assistant at UMass (2003), Sacred Heart (2004), and Delaware (2005). He played wide receiver at Kentucky (1998-2000) and UMass (2001-02).
Neal Brown’s Contract
The details of Brown’s contract have not yet been widely publicized.
UNT head coach Eric Morris received $1.4 million in total pay in 2025, according to USA Today.
Neal Brown’s Record
Neal Brown is 72-51 overall during his time as an FBS head coach.
He went 35-16 at Troy from 2015-18 and 37-35 at West Virginia from 2019-24.
