North Texas was on track to be one of the best teams in the American Conference and the Group of Five. Then the Mean Green suffered their first loss.
North Texas lost at home against South Florida, one of the few G5 programs which has been ranked in the Associated Press Top 25 this season, 63-36. UNT did rebound, though.
The Mean Green are 6-1 and 2-1 in conference play after a 55-17 blowout triumph over UTSA. They hope to put together another winning streak and very well could considering who they play in the second half of the regular season.
But they have to take care of business this week when they go on the road to face Charlotte. The 49ers are 1-6 and 0-4 in the AC standings as they are seeking to snap their four-game losing streak and earn their first win over an FBS squad.

North Texas vs. Charlotte Prediction
I predict North Texas will win and cover the 26.5-point spread. I also project the game will go Over 61.5 total points.
Simply, this is a matchup between one of the best offenses in the country vs. one of the worst.
The Mean Green lead the American with 45 points per game and are third with 458.9 yards per game. Charlotte is second-to-last in total offense with 314.3 yards per game gained and is last with 17.1 points per game scored.
Defense isn’t the strength for either of these teams. However, UNT is fifth in the American in total defense with 355.7 yards per game allowed. Charlotte, meanwhile, is last with 438.4 YPG allowed.
That said, I think North Texas is going to win decisively, even if it’s on the road. The Mean Green are currently undefeated away from home this year.
They also know how to win by wide margins. They have four blowout wins on their resume thus far.
UNT quarterback Drew Mestemaker is playing like one of the best signal callers in the G5 right now. He’s thrown for 1,860 yards, 17 touchdowns, and three interceptions while rushing for four touchdowns as well.
And that’s while spreading the ball around. Three UNT wide receivers have at least 25 catches and 300 yards through the air, and seven Mean Green players have at least 100 yards and 10 catches. Wyatt Young is the leader with 396 yards and six touchdowns on 26 receptions.
I expect UNT’s passing offense is going to be too much for Charlotte and that this game will be out of reach by the fourth quarter.
