After Trent Bray led Oregon State through a couple of miserable years, with a 5-7 record in 2024 and a 2-10 mark in 2025, the Beavers went in another direction.
They hired Alabama assistant JaMarcus Shephard to help them bounce back now that the Pac-12 is rebuilt. OSU hopes to get back to its winning ways, as the Beavers were ranked as highly as 10th in the country in 2023 before most of the Pac-12’s members left for other conferences.

Oregon State Head Coach JaMarcus Shephard’s Background
Shephard has been a part of some pretty successful programs and has worked with some stellar players like Ryan Williams at Alabama and Rome Odunze at Washington.
He was the assistant head coach for Kalen DeBoer, first at Washington from 2022-23 and then at Alabama from 2024-25. He also coached wide receivers all four of those years.
Before that, he was a wide receivers coach at Purdue from 2017-21, becoming the team’s co-offensive coordinator the last four of those seasons.
He also worked with wideouts at Washington State (2016) and Western Kentucky (2014-15). He was a quality control coach at WKU from 2012-13 and was a defensive analyst there in 2011. He was an All-American while playing at DePauw from 2001-04.
