San Diego State is beginning to look like a program that could be in the mix for a Mountain West Championship appearance.
The Aztecs are 4-1 overall, with their only loss being at Washington State. They beat FCS Stony Brook to start the year and also won at home against Cal in a 34-0 blowout. SDSU has also won in close contests, winning at Northern Illinois 6-3.
SDSU is 1-0 in conference play, having defeated Colorado State 45-24. It will hope to improve on that league record this week at Nevada.
The Wolf Pack haven’t been as successful. They’re 1-4 overall. However, their last three games against Group of Five opponents have been fairly close. They lost 14-13 against Middle Tennessee and 31-16 at Western Kentucky. They also nearly beat Fresno State in their Mountain West opener but ultimately lost 20-17.
Could Nevada continue to close the gap and even snap its three-game losing streak?

San Diego State vs. Nevada Prediction
I predict San Diego State wins and covers the seven-point spread. I also project the game will go Under 42.5 total points.
In low-scoring or high-scoring games, the Aztecs have proven they know how to win. And I think they go on the road and extend their winning streak to four games.
The Aztecs are first in the Mountain West in scoring defense, having allowed 12.6 points per game, and in total defense, as they have allowed 260.8 yards per contest. SDSU has been especially great against the run, as the team also is first in the league with 102.8 YPG allowed on the ground.
And the run game has been Nevada’s strength. Despite their struggles, the Wolf Pack are fourth in the Mountain West with 177.2 rushing yards per contest.
I expect SDSU’s defensive front will be stout in this clash. I also believe the Aztecs offense, led by quarterback Jayden Denegal and wide receiver Jordan Napier, will make enough explosive plays to help the Aztecs win by double digits.
