Just a few years ago, Taylen Green was in the midst of a quarterback controversy and a mid-season coaching change at Boise State.
That was after he put together a Freshman of the Year campaign in the Mountain West. But while his time with the Broncos was challenging, it led to him going to the SEC and playing at Arkansas.
And now he’s viewed as a high-upside quarterback prospect in the NFL Draft. Green is one of the fastest and most explosive quarterbacks in this year’s class and gained plenty of experience during his time with the Broncos and Razorbacks.

Green’s collegiate career started strong at Boise State, but his journey wasn’t always smooth.

A season later, Green started 12 games but wasn’t the full-time QB. He threw for 1,752 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions while rushing for 436 yards and nine TDs.
That’s when he transferred to Arkansas. Taylen Green NFL Draft Profile & Comparison
My NFL comparison for Taylen Green is former first-round pick Justin Fields. This isn’t to say he’ll have the same career trajectory. Fields was a much better prospect coming out of college. But Green is a fast QB – who ran the 40 faster than Fields did – and his dual-threat abilities could help him find a place on an NFL team in some capacity.
Green was 27th among qualified quarterbacks in Pro Football Focus’ grades for overall offense last season. And he ranked first for rushing.
Green of course can gash defenses on the ground. And that’s both while scrambling and on designed runs. He displayed fantastic vision while running with the ball.
But he can also use his running ability to complement his capabilities as a passer. He keeps his eyes downfield often and delivers passes with good touch while on the move.
Green will need to be more careful with the ball. He tied for fourth in the FBS, per PFF, with 22 turnover-worthy plays last season.
But there’s potential with Green. It’s just a matter if the Browns are going to be willing to give him a real chance to be the best player he can be and give him space to play to his strengths.
