The state of Texas had more wins from their FBS teams during the 2017 college football season than any other state. But the Lone Star State only achieved the honor because it has five more teams than any other state. It was actually a miserable season for most Texas teams.

Texas is one of 41 different states with at least one FBS teams and the only one with more than seven, therefore it's not surprising the state had the most wins last year. It is, however, surprising it only earned the honor by two wins despite having four more teams that the next most FBS-rich state.
While Texas ranks first in total wins, it ranks 32nd in win percentage. The 12 FBS teams combined for a 64-86 record. Only two teams finished with more than seven wins (North Texas, 9-5; TCU, 11-3) and four had two or fewer wins (UTEP, 0-12; Baylor, 1-11; Rice, 1-11; Texas State, 2-10). And Texas also ranked 32nd in average scoring margin (minus-29.6 points per team), largely due to minus-300 and minus-196 margins from UTEP and Texas State, respectively.
