Kaidon Salter, who was one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in the Group of Five in 2023, announced Tuesday he’s entering the transfer portal.
Salter was the Group of Five Player of the Year in 2023. As a sophomore last year, the former Tennessee transfer threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns – which was fifth in the FBS – and six interceptions on a 61% completion rate. He was also top three in the nation for rushing touchdowns by a quarterback (12) as he ran for 1,089 yards on 163 carries.
He helped Liberty earn a New Year’s Six bowl berth. The Flames went undefeated during the regular season and won the Conference USA Championship before losing to Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl.
But this season was not as easy for the Flames. They went 8-3 during the regular season, with one game against App State being canceled. The Flames began the year with five straight wins before losing to Kennesaw State, which was its first win of the season and during its FBS era as the Owls made the jump from the FCS this year.
Liberty won three of its last five games with losses at Sam Houston to end the year and against Jacksonville State at home. With a 5-3 record in conference play, the Flames didn’t make it back to the Conference USA title game.
This year, Salter threw for 1,886 yards, 15 touchdowns, and six interceptions while completing 147 of 261 passes (56%). He also ran for 587 yards and seven touchdowns.
