Byron Vaughns, who was regarded as one of the top players in the transfer portal, announced Wednesday on Twitter that he had committed to Baylor.
Vaughns, who’s from Fort Worth, Texas, had spent the past two seasons in the Mountain West at Utah State.
Vaughns, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound defensive end, was the 2021 Mountain West Championship Defensive MVP. That season, he totaled four sacks, 10.5 tackles for loss, six pass breakups, a forced fumble, and 43 tackles.
A year later, he racked up 56 tackles, 8.5 for loss, with two sacks, nine quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. According to Pro Football Focus, he was tied for 14th in the country with 11 quarterback hits.
Vaughns began his collegiate career at Texas. He redshirted in 2018 and didn’t play in 2020, but he totaled 14 tackles in 10 games in 2019.
Vaughns was a three-star recruit after playing at Eastern Hills High School.
