The college football transfer portal window ends Friday, Jan. 16, which is today. It was open since Jan. 2.
The NCAA FBS Oversight Committee voted to move the start of the transfer window to Jan. 2. This move also eliminated the spring transfer window, which makes this time frame that much more important.
Players used to have a 30-day window the Monday after FBS conference championship games, and anyone playing in postseasons like the College Football Playoff or bowl games would get an extra five days in January. Then the second window in late April gave athletes another chance to enter the portal.
Players can transfer to a different school at any time as long as their names are in the transfer portal. They just can’t enter their names into the portal except during the transfer window.
