No. 2 seed Montana State squares off against unseeded Illinois State in Nashville for the FCS national championship.

After forcing a punt on Illinois State’s opening drive, Montana State took its first drive 90 yards on 10 plays, ending in a Justin Lamson rushing touchdown.
MSU methodically marched its way down the field again, going 80 yards on eight plays as Lamson added another rushing score.
Illinois State got a key response before halftime, making it 14-7 as Tommy Rittenhouse found Scotty Presson Jr.
But Montana State then answered with a 3-play, 75-yard scoring drive in 36 seconds to extend its lead to 21-7 before halftime.
Illinois State got a stop to start the second half.
The offense then went 17 plays, 85 yards to make it a one-score game again.
But once again, Montana State used a highlight-reel play to extend its lead to two scores.
Illinois State wasn’t going away, though, as Rittenhouse found Daniel Sobkowicz on a fourth-down, four-yard touchdown pass.
Illinois State’s defense got a big-time stop, and then its offense took advantage of the momentum and tied it up with 5:10 to play.
Illinois State lined up for a field goal with 1:04 to play, but it was blocked and recovered by MSU at the 45-yard line with 57 seconds left.
But MSU could not take advantage, and the game went into overtime, the first-ever OT in FCS/D1-AA title game history.
ISU struck first in OT, but the PAT was blocked.
MSU then tied with a Taco Dowler TD catch on 4th-and-10, and then won it all with the game-winning PAT.
