UPDATE: At 8:10 p.m. CT (Aug. 4), the NCAA stated it will provide an update on Aug. 5.
The NCAA Board of Governors held a 5.5-hour Zoom meeting Tuesday with the main discussion topic surrounding the status of fall championships. While there was a high level of uncertainty from FCS circles heading into the meeting, expectations were we would learn something regarding the FCS playoffs sometime today.
That doesn’t appear to be the case with no word from the NCAA as of 7 p.m. CT tonight. HERO Sports’ Brian McLaughlin reported at 5 p.m. that multiple sources told him the decision won’t be announced until Wednesday morning.
Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported two hours later that no vote occured at the meeting.
It was also reported around the same time that the board has decided not to make a decision at all, and each division will now decide for themselves.
Six of the 13 FCS conference have already postponed their fall season. The decision on the playoffs will influence a lot of decisions for the remaining conferences on whether to play in the fall or spring.
