Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.

5: Dai’Jean Dixon, WR (Sr.) — Nicholls
Nicholls has a terrific rushing attack (No. 3 rushing offense in the FCS during the spring season), but it also has one of the most dangerous weapons on the outside in Dixon. The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder is a huge target with a big-time catch radius and is a prospect NFL scouts are intrigued with.
Dixon is one of five FCS receivers on the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl Watchlist.
With one season remaining, Dixon already holds program career records in touchdown catches (27), receptions (165), and yards (2,800). He is eighth all-time in Southland Conference history in receiving yards and touchdowns.
Dixon has been a consistent target since his true freshman season in 2017, and he has caught at least one pass in 40 straight games.
His honors include 2018 All-Southland Conference Second Team and HERO Sports Sophomore All-American, 2019 All-Conference First Team, and 2020-21 All-Conference First Team and Phil Steele All-American Third Team.
Dixon has been productive against FBS opponents, something pro scouts evaluate more than games against FCS teams. In 2018, he caught four passes for 40 yards against Kansas and had another four catches for 112 yards versus Tulane. In 2019, Dixon recorded five receptions for 92 yards against Kansas State and five catches for 54 yards at Texas State.
He’ll get two more opportunities this fall against Memphis and Louisiana.
Dixon is a preseason Stats Perform Second Team All-American and a HERO Sports Third Team All-American. We rank him the eighth-best returning wide receiver in the FCS.
