Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2020 fall-2021 spring rosters.
33: Elijah Dotson, RB (Sr.) — Sacramento State
Dotson is one of the most dangerous and versatile offensive weapons in the FCS. At 6-foot and 193 pounds, he’s just as good catching the ball as he is rushing it.
As a true freshman in 2017, Dotson rushed for 475 yards and five touchdowns, had 139 receiving yards and two more TDs, and added 403 kick return yards.
The next season, he earned All-Big Sky First Teams honors with 1,154 yards and nine TDs on the ground.
Dotson was fabulous in 2019 in first-year head coach Troy Taylor’s offense. He rushed 151 times for 742 yards and seven TDs and caught 70 passes for 702 yards and four TDs. Dotson was again named to the All-Conference First Team and was named a HERO Sports Second Team All-American.
After not playing in 2020-21 due to COVID, Sac State looks to defend its 2019 Big Sky championship. While replacing All-American quarterback Kevin Thomson is going to be a tough task, Dotson is as good as it gets in the FCS at running back, and Pierre Williams is a great weapon at wide receiver.
