Welcome to the 2022 FCS Jersey Countdown. Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 27, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2021 rosters.
11: BJ Bohler, DB (Sr.) — Florida A&M
Bohler is an uber-talented cornerback with great ball skills. He’s generated some NFL buzz as an undrafted free agent-level prospect in 2023 with plenty of room to rise. Some may question his size at 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds for the next level, but he has more than held his own against SWAC offenses filled with tremendous wide receivers.
A two-star recruit from Ocoee, Florida, Bohler began his career at Mercer before transferring to FAMU. Last season, he emerged as one of the top corners in the country, always making his presence felt on the field for a strong defense. The Rattlers ranked No. 10 with 17.0 points allowed per game and No. 17 with 183.6 passing yards allowed a game.
Bohler recorded 52 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions returned for 106 yards, and 12 pass breakups. He was named on the All-SWAC First Team and a Boxtorow All-American.
The Rattlers went 9-2 last regular season and 7-1 in the SWAC, losing 7-6 to Jackson State. They received an at-large bid to the FCS playoffs, losing 38-13 to SLU in the first round. An even stronger year is expected for a team loaded with talent and with Celebration Bowl expectations.
Bohler is ranked our No. 7 returning FCS cornerback. He’s also a HERO Sports Third Team All-American and a Second Team All-American for The Bluebloods. Earlier this summer, Bohler was named an HBCU player on the Reese’s Senior Bowl radar, the top postseason all-star game for NFL prospects.
