Welcome to the 2022 FCS Jersey Countdown. Leading up to the start of weekly college football odds and Week 0 games on Aug. 27, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.

The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.

Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2021 rosters.

69: Justin Szuba, OL (Sr.) — Monmouth

Szuba is a giant on the Monmouth offensive line. The 6-foot-8, 300-pound right tackle enters his sixth year of college football after missing last season due to injury.

After developing for two years, Szuba started all 14 games in 2019. He was named to the All-Big South Second Team and earned HERO Sports Sophomore All-American honors. Monmouth’s Pete Guerriero led the FCS with 1,995 rushing yards that season.

Szuba started all four games in the shortened 2021 spring season, being named to the All-Conference First Team. Monmouth’s rushing attack was again strong, this time with RB Juwon Farri winning the Big South’s Offensive Player of the Year Award. QB Tony Muskett was named the Rookie of the Year.

Szuba eyes a healthy season and more postseason accolades in 2022. The Hawks, who reached the playoffs in 2019 and the spring, enter their first season in the CAA. It will be a step up in competition in a league featuring more depth.

With standouts like Szuba, Farri, and Muskett leading the offense, Monmouth looks to compete right away in its new conference.
