Welcome to the 2022 FCS Jersey Countdown. Leading up to the start of weekly college football odds and Week 0 games on Aug. 27, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2021 rosters.
55: Kyle Nunez, OL (Sr.) — Stony Brook
Nunez is an imposing figure who has been among the best offensive linemen in the CAA for years. The 6-foot-2, 340-pound right guard enters his sixth season, is a four-year starter, and is a four-time All-Conference selection.
His accolades date back to 2018 as a redshirt freshman. Nunez played in 12 games and started six, being named to the All-CAA Second Team and a HERO Sports Freshman All-American. He added Second Team All-Conference honors in 2019 and First Team honors in the 2021 spring along with Second Team All-American nods from Stats Perform and the AFCA.
Last season, Nunez was named a team captain. He helped the Seawolves finish second in the CAA with 176.1 rushing yards per game, once again getting named on the All-CAA Second Team.
“I think he probably had his best campaign of his collegiate career this year. He really controlled the interior part of our offensive line,” head coach Chuck Priore said.
A team captain in 2022, Nunez looks to finish his career as a five-time All-Conference honoree, something not many players can say.
