86: Paxton Scott, WR (Jr.) — Dartmouth
Scott is wearing No. 7 in 2022
Scott had to wait an extra year to see the field at Dartmouth after the Ivy League canceled the 2020 fall and 2021 spring football seasons due to COVID. But he made the wait worth it in his college debut on Sept. 18, 2021, recording eight catches for 87 yards and one TD to be named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Dallas native continued his standout season to lead the 9-1 Big Green with 46 receptions for 505 yards and four touchdowns. Against the CAA’s New Hampshire, Scott caught four passes for 92 yards and a score.
He earned All-Ivy League Honorable Mention accolades. Scott also won the team’s Doten Award, given to a member of the sophomore class who made a significant contribution to the success of the team. Scott is a quick receiver, utilizing that quickness to create separation and to make plays after the catch. He’s also tough to bring down with his want to gain every yard after contact.
Scott stepping up as the go-to target was massive for another successful Dartmouth season. He had double the number of catches and receiving yards as the No. 2 WR. The Big Green have finished 9-1 three seasons in a row, winning a share of the conference title in 2019 and 2021. With QB Derek Kyler (17 TDs, 1 INT) gone, Scott remaining a reliable weapon who can get open is key for the 2022 passing attack. QB Nick Howard is back after leading the team with 787 yards rushing and 15 TDs, but he attempted just 18 passes as a running quarterback.
Dartmouth is ranked No. 23 in HERO Sports’ Preseason Top 25.
