24: Peter Oliver, RB (Sr.) — Holy Cross
Oliver is a physical running back for a Holy Cross offense that wants to run the ball. The 6-foot, 222-pounder can get the tough yardage while also being able to find a crease and explode for a large gain.
Oliver comes from an athletic family. His father Jeff played football at Boston College and with the New York Jets. He’s also Holy Cross’ head strength and conditioning coach. Oliver’s mother Kate played softball at Boston College.
He saw time as a true freshman in 2018, rushing 62 times for 236 yards and two touchdowns. In 2019, Oliver had 103 carries for 396 yards and four touchdowns. During the shortened 2020 spring season, Oliver played in four games. He ran 32 times for 226 yards and one TD, averaging 7.1 yards per carry and being named on the All-Patriot League Second Team.
Last fall was Oliver’s most productive season. He was the top RB and finished second on the team behind QB Matthew Sluka in rushing. Oliver had 150 carries for 780 yards and four TDs, averaging 5.2 yards a rush. He earned All-Conference First Team honors as Holy Cross finished No. 18 in FCS rushing offense (205.2 YPG).
The Crusaders now have heightened expectations this season. They finished 10-3 last year, including a 38-28 win at FBS UConn. Their season ended in the second round of the playoffs, narrowly losing 21-16 to CAA co-champ Villanova. Holy Cross is ranked No. 17 in HERO Sports’ Preseason Top 25.
