46: Ty Boeck, LB (Sr.) — Chattanooga
Chattanooga looks primed to have a top defense in the FCS this season. The Mocs return six of their top 10 tacklers after ranking No. 11 in FCS scoring defense last fall (17.1 points per game), highlighted by veteran standout DL Devonnsha Maxwell and leading tackler Ty Boeck.
Boeck is a physical player and has been a top SoCon linebacker for multiple seasons. He’s a three-time All-Conference selection in three years of starting (2019 Second Team, 2020-21 Second Team, 2021 First Team).
In 2019 as a sophomore, Boeck finished second on the team with 101 tackles. The next season, he totaled 31 tackles in four games. And last fall, the 6-foot-1 and 218-pounder tallied 90 tackles, 10 TFLs, three sacks, and one interception. Against P5 Kentucky, Boeck racked up 13 tackles, one TFL, and one sack.
Boeck enters his senior season with 229 career tackles in 37 games played and 26 starts. He is adding to his family legacy for Chattanooga athletics. Boeck’s dad Troy played football for the Mocs and was the 1990 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, while his mom Karin played basketball at UTC from 1989-92.
“It’s been great that Ty’s decided to stay home at Chattanooga, because he’s been a huge foundation of our defense since 2019 and only continues to improve,” UTC inside linebackers coach Mike Yeager said.
Chattanooga has higher expectations than last season’s 6-5 record that saw two losses by four and three points to end the year and fall short of the playoffs. With the returning talent, the Mocs should be a postseason team in 2022 and are ranked No. 16 in our preseason Top 25.
