35: Tyler King, LB (So.) โ Stony Brook
King is exactly what you picture when you think of a Stony Brook linebacker. Stout, physical, and who loves to hit.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pounder had a breakout season last fall, making a name for himself as one of the best young linebackers in the FCS. King totaled 95 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, and one interception in 11 games. He ranked fifth in the CAA in total tackles, and his 50 solo tackles were No. 2. King had a season-high 12 tackles against Oregon, including three TFLs and one sack.
King was named to the All-CAA Second Team and a HERO Sports Freshman All-American. He also finished 10th in Jerry Rice Award voting for the best FCS freshman.
“We are really excited about Tyler King’s selection to the HERO Sports Freshman All-American Team,” head coach Chuck Priore said. “Very early in Tyler’s career, he showed us the leadership off the field, in the weight room, and to see it transform to the football field this past season over an 11-game stretch being our leading tackler and a leader in the CAA in several categories. It is a well-deserved honor and I know he will continue to try to get better.”
King was recently named to the 2022 preseason All-CAA team. Stony Brook was picked to finish seventh in the 13-team league standings.
