19: Tyrone Scott, WR (Jr.) — Missouri State
Since Bobby Petrino took over as Missouri State’s head coach, the Bears have significantly improved their roster talent and have made back-to-back playoff appearances after a 30-year postseason drought.
Mo State has gotten difference-makers through the transfer portal. Two of the big names it brought in last year were QB Jason Shelley from Utah State and WR Tyrone Scott from Central Michigan.
Scott became a big-time target for Shelley in the fall with his ability to stretch the field vertically and also make contested catches, setting school records for receptions (66), receiving yards (1,110), and receiving touchdowns (8). He led the MVFC with 92.5 receiving yards per game, earning All-Conference First Team honors and HERO Sports Sophomore All-American accolades.
The 6-foot-3, 202-pounder helped the Bears to the No. 12 FCS scoring offense (34.2 points per game) and the No. 15 passing offense (282.8 yards per game). Mo State finished 8-4, including three wins against to-be playoff teams and two one-possession losses to FBS No. 22 Oklahoma State and FCS national champion North Dakota State. The Bears’ season ended in the first round of the playoffs, losing 32-31 at home against UT Martin.
Despite two disappointing playoff performances in back-to-back seasons, Mo State has huge expectations in 2022 to compete at a national level. It is ranked No. 5 in the Stats Perform FCS Preseason Top 25. The talent is there to live up to the hype, especially offensively. Scott is our No. 4 returning FCS wide receiver, and Shelley is our No. 1 returning quarterback.
