Welcome to the 2023 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 26, HERO Sports will name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Because team rosters are updated at different times across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on last season’s rosters.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.

61: Hunter Mayginnes, OL (Sr.) — Montana
Mayginnes has brought a nastiness to Montana’s offensive line in his two seasons with the Griz.
A three-star high school recruit out of Arizona, Mayginnes began his college career at Washington State from 2018-2020. He transferred to Montana before the 2021 fall season and earned a starting spot at guard. Mayginnes was named Third Team All-Big Sky for his play.
Last year, Mayginnes had another standout season and was named on the All-Conference First Team as Montana averaged 36.2 points per game (No. 12 in the FCS).
Mayginnes had a PFF run-blocking grade of 57.8 and a pass-blocking grade of 85.5. In 474 pass-blocking reps, he allowed zero sacks, two hits, and five hurries for a 99.2 efficiency.
Entering 2023, Montana loses its starting quarterback and two leaders in receiving yards. But the top three running backs return in Nick Ostmo (743 yards), Isiah Childs (299 yards), and Xavier Harris (274 yards).
They’ll run behind a big and experienced offensive line, led by Mayginnes. All five starters return: Mayginnes (6’5” 325 lbs), AJ Forbes (6’2” 302 lbs), Chris Walker (6’6” 291 lbs), Brandon Casey (6’5” 295 lbs), and Liam Brown (6’5” 310 lbs).
Mayginnes ranks No. 15 on HERO Sports’ best returning FCS offensive linemen.
