Lack Of FCS-to-FBS Transfer QB Success
Of the six FCS-to-FBS transfer quarterbacks this offseason, three are grad transfers: Tyler Huff, Matthew Sluka, and Max Brosmer.
All six were standout players at their FCS school. They now look to make a similar impact at the FBS level and hope to buck an overall trend of unsuccessful FCS-to-FBS QB transfers.
In 2022, there were 10 FCS-to-FBS transfer quarterbacks. Only one became a full-time starter at their FBS school: Cameron Ward (UIW to Washington State).
Last season, there were 15 FCS-to-FBS transfer quarterbacks. Only four earned a full-time starting role at their new school: Jalon Jones (Bethune-Cookman to Charlotte), Grant Wilson (Fordham to Old Dominion), Shedeur Sanders (Jackson State to Colorado), and Tony Muskett (Monmouth to Virginia).
Of the 300+ total FCS-to-FBS transfers in 2023, only 38% of the transfers started at least half of their games played at their new school, 36% of the transfers were 2022 FCS All-Conference players, and 9% of the transfers earned All-Conference honors at their new school.
