FCS: Career Wins Record Is Within Striking Distance For NDSU’s Easton Stick

FCS: Career Wins Record Is Within Striking Distance For NDSU’s Easton Stick

If you want a good quote about North Dakota State quarterback Easton Stick's teammates or the great teams he's been a part of, just ask him about the individual records he's broken or about to break. As any "franchise" QB will do, he'll deflect those kinds of questions, just like he did Saturday after breaking Brock Jensen's (2010-13) school record with his 73rd career touchdown pass.

With the Bison holding a dominant 8-0 start, the tough part of the schedule behind them and a Top 2 playoff seed essentially locked up, there's another career record that is being put on notice.

With all due respect to the number of FCS quarterback records being broken in recent years, this one would be the most impressive.

And that's career wins.

Stick entered his senior season with a ridiculous 34-3 record. The preseason thought was the No. 1 ranked Bison had a great chance to have a traditional 14-1 record in 2018 with a seventh national title in eight seasons, which would see a knock-on-wood healthy Stick tie Jensen's record of 48 total wins. (Jensen finished 47-5 as a starter and won the Bison's first three national titles.)

It was a record most assumed would never be broken. The previous holder was Appalachian State's Armanti Edwards, who had 43 wins.

But it took just five seasons and two NDSU quarterbacks later to not only have a chance to tie it but to break it.

Barring a massive upset against Youngstown State, Missouri State or Southern Illinois, the Bison will finish the regular season 11-0. And with NDSU looking like it's on another level compared to FCS teams 2-25, the Bison are heavy favorites to win another national championship.

A win in Frisco would give Stick the all-time wins record and a career record of 49-3.

49 wins.

3 losses.

Of course, this is an article no one within the NDSU program cares about with the game-by-game jargon spoken by players and coaches. Ask any of them about the possibility of going 11-0, and they'll say they're just trying to go 1-0 this week.

And good luck trying to get Stick to read this. He doesn't even have Twitter.

But as Stick finishes out his career – one in which he never blew anyone away with ridiculous statistics (although his 40 total touchdowns in 2017 and 22 total scores to two interceptions this year aren't too shabby) and probably won't ever win any major awards (although he's the best offensive player on the best team in the country) – we should all appreciate watching one of the most impressive all-time records getting closer and closer to being broken.
