2019 FCS Kickoff Countdown: 7 Days, The Best Player Who Wears No. 7 Is Delaware State’s Brian Cavicante

Welcome to the 2019 FCS Kickoff Jersey Countdown.  

The regular season begins Saturday, Aug. 24 with Samford vs. Youngstown State in the Guardian Credit Union FCS Kickoff along with Villanova playing at Colgate.

HERO Sports is going to count down each day by highlighting the best player in the FCS who wears the jersey number equal to the number of days until kickoff. You can find the running list of top players here.

*Note: Jersey numbers are from the 2018 season.

7: Brian Cavicante, LB (Sr.) — Delaware State

Expectations are high for Cavicante and his senior season. He was voted the 2019 MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and is also on the 2019 Watch List for the Black College Football Player of the Year Award.

At 6-foot and 220 pounds, Cavicante has been productive for the Hornets since his true freshman year in 2016. In his first season, he finished second on the team with 6.4 tackles per game (70 total) and added seven TFLs. In 2017, Cavicante totaled 74 tackles and had 10 TFLs.

Cavicante earned First Team All-Conference honors last year and finishing second in the MEAC with 89 total tackles. He was third in the conference with 8.1 tackles per game, second with 17 tackles for loss and tied for third with 50 solo tackles.
