HERO Sports is going to count down each day by highlighting the best player in the FCS who wears the jersey number equal to the number of days until kickoff. You can find the running list of top players here.

27: Darien Reynolds, LB (Jr.) — Gardner-Webb

Note: Reynolds is wearing No. 1 in 2019.

In his first season as a starter last year, Reynolds finished second on the team with 75 tackles and added three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception, four pass breakups and three quarterback hurries. He was named the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week two times. In those two performances, Reynolds had 13 tackles and an interception against Campbell and 14 tackles against Presbyterian.

His play throughout the season earned him a spot on the All-Conference Second Team.

A lot will be asked of Reynolds this year as he makes the move to middle linebacker. But he's expected to have a big season after being named to the preseason All-Big South First Team.
