Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
77: Liam Fornadel, OL (Sr.) — James Madison
Fornadel has had a significant presence on JMU’s offensive line since his freshman season in 2017. He has played in all 44 games from 2017-2019 and is now one of the top offensive lineman in the FCS entering 2020. Fornadel was named on our Preseason All-American First Team.
Fornadel appeared in all 15 games in 2017 and made two starts at right guard. As a sophomore and junior, he started every game at right tackle. In 2018, Fornadel was named a HERO Sports Sophomore All-American and earned a spot on the All-CAA Second Team.
Last season, Fornadel was named an All-Conference First Teamer and earned First Team All-American honors from us, STATS, Phil Steele and the AFCA along with a Second Team All-American nod from the Associated Press.
Fornadel’s skill set has caught the attention of NFL Draft scouts. At 6-foot-4 and 308 pounds, he’s projected to be a guard at the next level, but his athleticism showcased at the tackle position will get him a shot at pro ball.
