Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
60: John Burk, OL (Sr.) — Lafayette
Burk is a two-year starter entering his senior season. He’s started all 23 games for the Leopards, playing right guard in 2018 before sliding over to right tackle last year.
The 6-foot-4, 320-pounder was named on the 2019 All-Patriot League Second Team for his play.
Burk is one of the most respected guys in the locker room and was voted one of four team captains for 2020.
“These four student-athletes are true ambassadors of our program and Lafayette College. They are our flag-carriers,” head coach John Garrett said. “All four have represented our program and the College in exemplary ways on the field, in the classroom and in the community. They have earned the respect of their teammates, have proved to be the ‘Right Kind of Guys’ and will lead our football team to even greater heights as we build a program everyone is proud of on and off the field.”
Burk has a strong football bloodline. His grandfather, Stephen Unger, played football at Wake Forest. He had two great uncles play college football as well: John Unger (Rutgers) and Thomas Unger (Lafayette).
