Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
17: Robby Hauck, S (Jr.) — Montana
Hauck transferred to Montana from Northern Arizona in 2018, the same year his dad Bobby returned as head coach for the Griz.
His impact was immediate. Hauck is a sound tackler from his safety position and is used more like a third linebacker in Montana’s defense.
In 2018, he finished seventh in voting for the Jerry Rice Award, given to the top FCS freshman. Hauck earned HERO Sports Freshman All-American honors as he racked up 95 tackles.
Last season, Hauck totaled 129 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks, one interception, three passes defended and two forced fumbles.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pounder earned HERO Sports Sophomore All-American and Third Team All-American honors while also being named on the All-Big Sky Conference Second Team.
Hauck enters 2020 on our preseason All-American First Team.
