98: Kobie Turner, DL (Jr.) — Richmond
Top tacklers on a football team are usually reserved for guys in the back seven of a defense. Not 275-pound defensive lineman.
But that wasn’t the case for Richmond’s Kobie Turner in 2019. He was extremely productive, finishing fourth on the team with 71 tackles and also led the Spiders with 14.5 tackles for loss while ranking second with seven sacks and seven QB hurries. His 71 tackles were the most by a CAA defensive lineman.
This came after a modest 2018 season that included just 14 tackles, 2.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks.
Turner stepped up in a big way last season as he entered the starting lineup and started all 12 games. Two of his best games came against the top opponents on the schedule. Turner had seven tackles vs. FBS Boston College and racked up 12 tackles, 1.5 TFLs and 1.5 sacks against No. 2 James Madison.
His play earned him All-CAA Third Team honors.
Turner’s emergence and impact in 2019 have led to him being one of the more respected players in the Richmond locker room. He was named one of five team captains for the 2020 season.
