Welcome to the 2020 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Throughout the May-August months, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-1. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2019 season.
The full 99-1 countdown/schedule can be found here.
*Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2019 rosters.
72: Mason Scheidegger, OL (Sr.) — South Dakota
Scheidegger has been rock-solid for the Coyotes, starting all 36 games in the last three seasons.
His versatility has been key, especially when asked to basically do it all as a redshirt freshman in 2017. That season, Scheidegger started at least one game at each position on the offensive line except right tackle. He earned HERO Sports Freshman All-American honors and was named on the All-MVFC Newcomer Team.
It’s not easy being a freshman offensive lineman in the physical MVFC. Scheidegger was asked to perform at a high level at multiple positions as the Coyotes made the playoffs that year.
In 2018, Scheidegger started 11 games at left guard and was an All-Conference honorable mention selection. Last year, he started 12 games at right guard and got another honorable mention nod.
