The MEAC will lose two of its premiere teams after the 2020 season.
North Carolina A&T announced earlier this year that it will join the Big South, leaving one of two HBCU conferences in the FCS and no longer being in contention for the Celebration Bowl.
HBCU Gameday has recently reported on Florida A&M's increased interest in leaving the MEAC for the SWAC. The two conferences send their champion to play for the HBCU national championship. This morning, FAMU's Board of Trustees unanimously voted to leave the MEAC for the SWAC.
With both NC A&T and FAMU leaving after the 2020 season, the MEAC would have just seven football-playing teams. The SWAC currently has 10 teams, split between the east and west divisions.
NC A&T is ranked No. 19 in our 2020 preseason Top 25 while FAMU is ranked No. 20.
