42: Josh Buss, LB — Montana
Josh Buss is our pick for the best No. 42 in the business, but he's also one of the best players in FCS Football, full stop.
A multi-year All-American, Buss has recorded at least 80 tackles in each of the last two years. By the end of his senior year, he'll have sprinkled himself all over the Grizzlies' storied defensive record book. He needs 97 tackles to pass Shawn Lebsock for 10th on the career list; perhaps more interestingly, he needs 17.5 tackles for loss to pass Zack Wagenmann and become the all-time Montana career TFL leader.
I could probably tell you lots stats about Josh Buss. I could show you videos of all the great plays he's made. But the easiest way for me to quantify the greatness of Buss is for me to simply point out who he beat out for the No. 42 spot in this countdown: All-American Bryson Armstrong (Kennesaw) and All-American Jabril Cox (NDSU), among several others. Elite company, indeed.
