6: Kelvin McKnight, Senior wide receiver — Samford
Does a good quarterback make a receiver great? Or does a great receiver elevate a quarterback to elite status? It's football's version of the Chicken-and-Egg debate, and we'll likely never have a firm answer. What we do know is this: Devlin Hodges and Kelvin McKnight are both pretty darn good.
McKnight, who was named the conference's Freshman of the Year in 2015, is the clear-cut No. 1 skill player in the conference right now. He led the SoCon with 1,179 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns last season, and over the course of his three-year career at Samford, he's made the conference's All-Freshman team (2015), Second Team (2016) and First Team (2017).
McKnight is following in the footsteps of former Samford receiver Karel Hamilton, who was elected as a First-Team receiver every season from 2014-16. In fact, Samford has had a First-Team SoCon receiver every season dating back to 2013. Given his highly regarded status entering his senior season, McKnight is likely to earn another First-Team berth and continue the Bulldogs' streak.
Get ready to hear Hodges-to-McKnight an awful lot.
