Eastern Washington senior All-American quarterback Gage Gubrud will undergo season-ending surgery on a lower leg injury.
Gubrud was out of his walking boot this week and participated in practice. But he did not suit up today against Idaho and after the game, head coach Aaron Best announced Gubrud's season and college career is done.
Gubrud is a two-time Walter Payton Award finalist with multiple All-American and All-Big Sky honors.
His numbers since starting in 2016 are videogame-like: 9,983 yards passing and 1,042 yards rushing, averaging 344.6 yards of total offense a game. He's thrown for 87 touchdowns and scored 13 on the ground.
EWU improved to 6-2 overall today with a 38-14 win and is 2-1 with sophomore Eric Barriere behind center. In his three starts, Barriere is 61-105 passing for four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also has 186 yards rushing and three more scores. The Eagles were ranked No. 5 in this week's poll.
