FCS Kickoff Countdown: 60 Days, the Best Player in FCS Football that Wears No. 60

The countdown to the 2018 college football season is on. Four FCS teams are in action Aug. 25 as Duquesne takes on UMass, Prairie View faces Rice and North Carolina A&T and Jacksonville State square off in ESPN’s FCS Kickoff.

HERO Sports is going to count down each day by highlighting the best player in FCS football who wears the jersey number of the number of days to kickoff. You can find the running list of top players here.

*Note: Jersey numbers are from the 2017 season.

60: Wes Jones, senior offensive lineman – Norfolk State

Steadily turning in strong tidewater performances is a versatile lineman who's already accumulated more than 20 starts, all prior to the start of his senior season.

Norfolk State, which ranked as a middle-of-the-road team last season in categories like sacks allowed and passing offense, has plenty of room for improvement. Very little of it is related to Jones, though, who has already earned 22 starts in his three years in Norfolk. In fact, Jones has started 21 of NSU's last 22 games and enters the 2018 season with a 17-game start streak.

All this experience places the six-foot-one, 305-pound Jones in rare air in the MEAC. The rising senior played guard as a sophomore and center as a junior; whatever position he plays during his final collegiate season, we think the MEAC will recognize him with some postseason honors after his senior campaign. It probably helps that we think Norfolk State could be sneaky good this fall.
