FCS: James Madison Keeps Standout Recruiting Class Mostly Intact

The 2019 James Madison football signing class isn't the biggest (due to a small 2018 senior class), but it certainly packs a big punch.

The Dukes signed eight players in December and signed five more today. The full class can be seen here.

In an article last week, we highlighted the fact that JMU had commitments from big-time recruits with FBS offers, but now had to hold strong until signing day.

And for the most part, the class stayed intact.

Julio Ayamel is the No. 1 ranked recruit in the CAA and the No. 3 ranked linebacker in the FCS. Jalen Green, who will play defensive line for the Dukes, is the No. 3 ranked recruit in the CAA and the No. 4 linebacker in the FCS. Both made it official today.

JMU did lose notable commitments of Rick D'Abreu (No. 6 recruit in the CAA and No. 4 overall defensive linemen) and three-star quarterback Knox Kadum.

But overall, and especially with a new coaching staff, the Dukes did a fantastic job of holding off FBS teams to secure one of the top recruiting classes in the FCS.

From the CAA recruit rankings released 1.5 weeks ago, the Dukes now have the No. 1, No. 3, No. 9, No. 13, No. 16. No. 18 and No. 26 of the Top 30 inked and on board. That's more than half of their recruiting class looked at as top CAA prospects.

Couple that with JMU's No. 5 ranked recruiting class last year and its No. 2 recruiting class in 2017 and the future is as bright as its ever been for the Dukes.
