Protheroe, at 5-foot-11 and 230 pounds, was a workhorse fullback in Cal Poly's triple-option offense. His career included 861 carries for 4,271 yards and 35 touchdowns.
After a standout 2016 season, Protheroe missed most of 2017 with a torn ACL. He bounced back this season, carrying the ball 363 times for 1,810 yards and 13 touchdowns. The bruiser has shown some speed as well, with touchdown runs of 76 and 70 yards throughout his Cal Poly career.
