FCS Kickoff Countdown: The Best Player in FCS Who Wears No. 19 is UND’s Deion Harris

The countdown to the 2018 college football season is on. Four FCS teams are in action Aug. 25 as Duquesne takes on UMass, Prairie View faces Rice and North Carolina A&T and Jacksonville State square off in ESPN’s FCS Kickoff.

19: Deion Harris, DB (Sr.) — North Dakota

Harris is going to be wearing No. 24 for his senior season, but hopes he brings his No. 19 magic from two years ago. He was expected to have a huge senior season last year and was ranked early as the third-best FCS prospect for the 2018 NFL Draft. At 6-foot-3, Harris was listed as the No. 14 cornerback in all of college football and a projected third-round draft pick.

But Harris suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during a summer conditioning workout.

If he can return to his 2016 self, Harris can be a top corner in the FCS. His value is unquestioned in the Big Sky with the number of great wide receivers in that league.

He's on our preseason All-American First Team and made our Third Team two seasons ago. In 2016, he registered 36 total tackles, 14 passes defended, nine pass breakups and led the Big Sky with five interceptions. Three of those he housed for touchdowns, which ranked first in the FCS.
